Challenge MS

Yesterday I was privileged enough to do something I love, have it benefit hundreds of thousands of people today, and effect countless people for generations to come.  I rode my bike. I rode with the newly reformed Central Michigan University Cycling Club. I rode with over 100 other people. But most importantly I rode with the people you see pictured above. They are the Challenge MS riders. During the last week this team of eight embarked on a journey from Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina to Mt. Pleasant, MI. They rode the 1,200 miles to raise awareness and money for the 400,000+ people battling Multiple Sclerosis in the United States.

The whole idea for this epic trip was spawned and planned over a dinner in Miami, Florida last summer between a few of the riders and their families.  The ride for MS cause really hit home with one of the riders, John Hunter, who we learned at the post ride party has a grandfather who’s battled MS for the last 30 years.

Overall yesterday’s ride was a great.  It was the probably the last 70 degree day for Michigan this year.  It was the first event we endorsed as the Central Michigan University Cycling Club (officially an RSO now).  It was good to meet new local cycling enthusiasts, as well as catch up with old ones.  Contributing to the $6,000 raised alone yesterday felt great (Challenge MS raised nearly $30,000 during their trip for anyone who’s counting).  And hearing stories from the journey from the team over free food and beer was the icing on the cake.
