Timeflies Thursday

Timeflies. For the many of you who know how talented the musical duo is, I need not say more. But for those of you who are still unfamiliar with the Pop x Hip-hop x Electro x Dubstep x Rock artists now is as good a time as any to start listening.

Timeflies is made up of 23 year-old vocalist Cal and 22 year-old producer Rez. The duo formed in October of 2010 and has been making moves towards stardom ever since.

In September, Timeflies released their debut album The Scotch Tape (available on iTunes and the Timeflies website). It peaked at #8 on overall chart and #2 on the Pop chart just 24 hours after its release. I’ve given it a listen or 10 and I like it. And given the reception they received at their Wayside Central concert last Sunday it’s fair to say I’m not alone.

Another things fans old and new should be sure to check out are “Timeflies Tuesdays”. Timeflies Tuesdays are the are look into the everyday lives of the duo.  They serve as a vlog (video blog), concert highlight reel, and a way for the group to do song covers.  Best of all they religiously publish one every week on their YouTube channel.

Last Sunday I got to promote and work my second show at Wayside Central of the semester.  Yes, it was a Timeflies show.  Long story short, it was a great night.  Doors didn’t open until about 9, but the line that wrapped around the building started gathering around 8.  Timeflies didn’t hit the stage until about 11, but DJ Pigpen had a huge mob of people raging around the stage as soon as the doors opened.

I was working the VIP entrance until Timeflies went on.  If I gained anything from the experience, it’s a huge amount of respect for club bouncers.  Helping and directing people, checking wristbands, and watching the entrance was relatively easy.  Dealing with drunk people (especially the ladies) who try to scam, sneak, and bulls*** their way in was the annoying part.  The amount of flirting, cute smiles, and tight dresses I had to turn away just about killed me.

11 PM rolled around, and I was relieved of my duties.  So I headed to the special all-access platform right next to the stage and watched the show begin.  Luckily for those who missed it, or want to relieve the night I brought my FlipCam and recorded a good amount of the show.

One of, if not the my favorite parts of the show had to be the CMU themed Space Jam freestyle Cal did.  Another was the Call Me Maybe cover in which Cal and Rez turned the cameras on us, and hundreds belted out, “Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but here’s my number, so call me maybe?”.  They took the footage and used it in this weeks Timeflies Tuesday cover of the Carly Rae Jepsen hit.

After the show, Timeflies retired to the VIP section, took a bunch of pictures, and met with some of their adoring fans.  2 AM struck and Wayside closed, so you know what that means… AFTERPARTY!

Unfortunately I cannot recall enough this to give you all a decent recap (must’ve hit my head and got amnesia or something).  All I know is that I woke up and saw this on Facebook the next morning…
