Return to the Glory Days, the New Dodge Viper.

Earlier today Bryce Hoffman (Automotive journalist for The Detroit News) tweetcasted the unveiling of the next Dodge Viper at the 2012 New York Auto Show.  Ralph Gilles (President and CEO of the SRT Brand and Senior Vice President of Design at Chrysler) excitedly gave background information about the Viper project and what it means to SRT, Dodge, and the Chrysler company as a whole.  The flagship of the SRT Brand was designed in Auburn Hills, MI with some help from Ferrari and Maserati.  The Viper will be built in Detroit, making it as American as a supercar can be.  The car has undergone many improvements including a 50 percent stiffer chassis, and receiving a more powerful yet 28 pound lighter engine.  The Viper now has launch control as well.  With 640 horsepower, a curb weight of only 3297 pounds, and an estimated top speed of 206 miles per hour, Gilles says the Viper will be the fastest naturally aspirated production car in the world.  With many interior improvements to the car as well Gillies says this Viper will no longer be regarded as a “joke” in the supercar community.

Gilles also mentioned that Dodge would be returning to the American LeMans series with the race edition of the new Viper.

Most of us probably won’t get the chance to ride in the 2013 Dodge Viper, let alone own one.  Thankfully Microsoft has us covered by debuting it in the next installment of the Forza racing game series.  Personally I love the look of this new Viper, and the improvements to the whole car make it legit super car in my book.
