It’s a Bike Lock in a Bottle!

One thing many of you probably don’t know about me is that I am a HUGE cycling fan, and an avid rider myself.  So anytime a cool new bike, accessory, or tool hits the market I get pretty excited.

Recently I stumbled across a nifty new product from a relatively small company called Küat (whoever believes bigger companies always have the best products is seriously missing out).  Küat (pronounced koo-at), founded in 2005, originally entered the cycling industry as in innovator of the vehicle mounted bike rack.  Since then, Küat’s focus has remained mostly towards bicycle transportation.  However they’ve greatly expanded their product line from the one rack they produced when they launched 7 years ago.

It’s Küat latest product that has me the most excited though.  It’s a cable bike lock that coils and contains itself in to a water bottle when not in use.  Every biker knows you MUST lock your bike up anytime you aren’t sitting on the saddle.  There are endless renditions of the “I just stopped inside for a minute…” scenario, and they all end with your bike being ridden away by a thief.  Most bikes nowadays have room for two water bottles, but unless you’re riding a great distance or get extremely parched during rides, you only use one.  Küat’s water bottle lock puts your secondary bottle cage to good use.  The bottle even has a small compartment in the bottom to store small valuables such as keys or cash.

The Küat bike lock retails for $34, and it comes in White, Black, Pink and Rasta.  I think it’s a gift any cyclist would appreciate.  There are many more and less expensive locks on the market, but few are this cool.  And can you really put a price on the security and piece of mind a locked bike gives you?

MTBR made this diagram to show how the Küat water bottle bike lock works. They also did a full review of the product, rating it 3.5 out of 5.
