PROJECT GHOST: Gino’s exclusive interview with the guys behind #ProjectM

So unless you live under a rock or something, you had to have heard about the mayhem surrounding “#ProjectM” this last weekend: A giant house party based off of the movie Project X that exploded virally in a matter of hours, and almost happened in Farmington Hills, Michigan before the police used their forces of evil to stop it. If you haven’t heard somehow, check out Channel 4: Click On Detroit’s breakdown first.

Well, the three kids responsible for this party (that according to news reports estimated 40,000 kids showing up [damn thats a lot of kids {like a lot, a lot}]) happen to be very close friends of mine. I was actually about to perform at this party, so you KNOW it was going to be nuts. But anyway, I sat down with the three of them in between all of their fancy channel news and radio interviews to get the REAL, personal scoop.

GHOST: So guys, how did #ProjectM get started?

Mikey: #ProjectM started as a small get together with people from the local area. A few of us were talking about it and advertising it on twitter, and it pretty much caught fire. Before long, everyone knew about it.

Jake: Literally everyone.

GHOST: Speaking of everyone, did your parents know about it?

Tyler: All of our parents knew about it, but they just thought it was a few people, you know? They had no idea how big this was getting. But then again neither did we.

GHOST: How many people were supposed to show up originally?

Mikey: Well when we first advertised, we projected about one hundred people, which is pretty big compared to parties kids are throwing these days. Especially in Farmington Hills. But soon one hundred turned into a thousand, and then a thousand turned into a couple thousand.

Tyler: I’d say we were expecting at least five thousand by Friday morning. When we learned it was trending, we were definitely surprised. Especially when we learned we were trending worldwide! How many people can say that started a movement like that?

GHOST: You’re damn right Tyler. I remember when we were first talking about it on Twitter, using the ‘#ProjectM’ stamp while talking about the party. I was joking about working Ugly Girl Security at the front door (well, half-joking… actually more-so serious). Then I remember noticing a ton of people talking about it. And then all of a sudden, it was trending in Detroit, and then worldwide in a matter of minutes! What was going through your head as this was happening?

Jake: Something like “Holy shit”

Mikey: It was just happening really fast, I didn’t really know what to think at first.

Tyler: All I thought was that it was awesome.

GHOST: Yeah definitely awesome. What’s the craziest thing that happened as #ProjectM exploded virally?

Jake: The craziest thing? That definitely had to be the phone calls from different countries we got. We had Canada and Brazil hitting us up. I mean we were trending in France and the UK. Oh, and also when we learned people were flying in from all over the US. California, Indiana, Illinois, Georgia, New York, and more. It was nuts.

GHOST: Well damn. When did the police first contact you?

Tyler: Friday morning, when Jake and Mikey were at school. They basically told us that it wasn’t going to happen, that the entire department was on assignment to make sure it didn’t.

Mikey: They told me there would be $500 fines to anybody that showed up, and that I was essentially to blame for any neighborhood damages that happened. I didn’t care though, I was still trying to throw the party at my house regardless.

GHOST: Atta boy. What’s some of the negative stuff you’ve heard regarding #ProjectM and what do you have to say about it?

Tyler: A lot of people said we were just doing it for attention, but that’s the farthest thing from the truth. I mean we kind of just ignore it though. We really didn’t expect the attention we got.

Mikey: You’re going to have haters no matter what, so what are you going to do? But for as much hate as we got, I’d like to say we had two times the support.

GHOST: Speaking of support, how do you guys feel about having all these girls literally infatuated with you? Like head over heels over head in love with you?

Jake: Not gonna lie, it feels good. We are really just three average guys, so for this to pop off, it’s a nice change.

GHOST: Man, stop being so modest. One girl offered a foursome with the three of you guys. Any comments about that?

Tyler: No comment. (everybody laughs)

GHOST: Okay fair enough, fair enough. Next subject. Who’s been contacting you after the #ProjectM explosion went down?

Mikey: A lot of radio stations (namely Channel 95.5) have been in touch with us, and we did interviews for pretty much all of the news channels. I have to say though, most of the people who hit us up were fans. This wouldn’t be as big as it is without them, and we thank them for the support.

Jake: Many people have talked to us about hosting their party. Everybody wants to party, so of course they support it.

GHOST: So here’s the question everybody’s been waiting for: What’s the plan for #ProjectM now? Is it still on?

Mikey: It’s still on! All we are going to say is that there is something coming soon. Everyone should stay tuned! You can get updates about what is going on at @realprojectm and also our individual twitters: Tyler: @tyler_tron … Mikey: @its_rnikey … Jake: @jakevento8

All three: Also, for being the greatest interviewer EVER, follow @GinoTheGhost

GHOST: Aww well thanks guys (Okay, I added that in myself^^^). Thank you so much for your time, and I look forward to #ProjectM going down!
