Kony 2012

When I was offered the opportunity to be interviewed by Detroit FOX 2 News this morning about Joseph Kony, I instantly leapt at it.

In case you’re unaware of the #StopKony movement sweeping the internet, I’ll give you a brief synopsis.  The Lord’s Resistance Army (more commonly known as the L.R.A.) is led by a man named Joseph Kony.  Kony’s biggest crime against humanity is the abduction, enslavement, abuse, and forced enlistment of children.  For the last 30 years Kony has been raiding villages for their children.  The young girls are forced into servitude and sexually abused.  The young boys are forced to join the army as child soldiers.

To raise awareness the Invisible Children foundation created an informative and inspirational video.  To say this video has gone viral would be the understatement of the year.  At the time of my interview with FOX 2 this morning it had just over 19 million views.  As of right now it’s almost at 41 million, and still climbing rapidly.

My interview with personal friend, and FOX 2 intern Donovan Hill took place at my house, and went on for several minutes.  I was asked to react to the viral video, the power of social media, whether or not I believed the message for change would reach powerful enough “higher-ups” to incite aid, and how the story of Jacob (the boy the video revolves around) personally struck me.  The story aired on the FOX 2 Detroit evening news for today (March 8, 2012), and hopefully airs again at midnight.  At this time I’ve been unable to find the interview online, but hopefully it’s up soon or I get a copy of it.

What is your reaction to Invisible Children’s video? What are your answers to the questions FOX 2 News Detroit asked me? LET US KNOW BELOW!!
